Privacy Policy
Racebud is a lap-timing app: you record a line, place gates on it and race your friends over it. To do that it needs your location while you ride, and a few things about you so other riders know who beat them. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it and how to delete it. “We” means Racebud; contact us at info@racebud.app.
The short version
- We use your location only while you are recording a track or racing.
- We don’t show ads, we don’t sell your data, and the app contains no advertising or tracking SDKs. We don’t track how you use the app.
- If you subscribe to Racebud Pro, Apple takes the payment; we never see your card details.
- Riders in a race you join see your rider name, photo, position during the race and lap times.
- You can delete your account from inside the app. See what that removes below.
What we collect
Your rider account
The first time you open Racebud it creates an anonymous account for your phone, identified by a random ID — no name, email or phone number. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from them (Apple may give us a private relay address instead) and a provider account ID. You may also set a rider name, a profile photo and your preferred units.
Location
While you record a track or ride in a race, the app collects GPS fixes from your phone — position, time, speed and accuracy. If you allow it, this continues in the background so you can lock your phone and pocket it mid-ride. When you are not recording or racing, the app does not collect your location.
Tracks and races
The tracks you record, the gates you place, the races you host or join, the GPS trail of each ride and the lap times computed from it are stored on our servers so the race can be timed and replayed in your history.
Technical data
When you are signed in we keep a session record with your IP address and your device’s user-agent string, used to keep you signed in and to protect your account. Our servers also keep short-lived request logs for security and debugging.
Photos and camera
The app opens your photo library or camera only when you choose a profile photo. Only the photo you pick is uploaded.
Purchases
Racebud Pro is an optional subscription, bought through Apple’s App Store. If you buy or restore it, we and our subscription provider RevenueCat receive your purchase history from Apple: which plan you bought, when it started, renews or ends, its price and currency, trial and refund status, and the store’s transaction IDs. This record is linked to your random account ID, not to your name or email. Apple handles the payment itself; we never receive your card or bank details.
Notifications
Race cues (for example, a lap completed) are local notifications scheduled on your phone. We don’t run a push-notification service and don’t collect a push token.
How we use it
- To time your laps, run races between riders and show leaderboards and results.
- To keep your history of tracks, races and laps across sessions and devices.
- To check whether you have Racebud Pro, restore it on a new phone, and understand how the subscription is doing overall (for example, how many people renew).
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
Where the GDPR applies, we process your data to perform our contract with you (providing the app you asked for), and for our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. Background location is used only with your permission, which you can withdraw in your phone’s settings at any time.
Who can see it
Other riders. Races are private and joined by code. Riders in a race you host or join see your rider name, photo, your live position on the track while the race is running, and your lap times and results. The host’s track line is shared with everyone in that race.
Service providers who run parts of Racebud for us, under contract and only for that purpose: our server hosting provider in the European Union, Cloudflare (storage for photos and map images, content delivery and map tiles), RevenueCat (manages Racebud Pro subscriptions: it validates purchases with Apple and holds the purchase record described above), and Apple and Google when you choose to sign in with them.
Apple processes your subscription payment under its own privacy policy.
The law. We disclose data if we are legally required to, or to protect the rights and safety of our riders or others.
We never sell your personal data or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and race data until you delete it. Deleted data leaves our backups as they expire, within 90 days.
Deleting your account
If you are signed in, go to Profile → Delete account in the app. You’ll be asked to confirm with Apple or Google. We then delete your account, profile photo, the GPS trails of every ride you recorded, your solo rides, and any tracks and races no one else took part in.
Races you shared with other riders are part of their history too. There, your laps stay on the leaderboard but are re-attributed to an anonymous “Deleted rider” with no link to you, and your GPS trail is still deleted.
If you never signed in, email info@racebud.app with your rider name and roughly when you last raced, and we’ll delete your anonymous rider for you. Deleting the app alone does not delete your data from our servers.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Racebud Pro subscription. Apple bills it, so only you can cancel it: on your iPhone go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancel before deleting your account if you don’t want to be charged again. To have your purchase record deleted from RevenueCat as well, email info@racebud.app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict how we process it, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. To exercise any of these, email info@racebud.app. We’ll answer within 30 days.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections, sign-in tokens are kept in your phone’s secure storage, and uploads to our storage are signed so only the file you chose can be written. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe.
Children
Racebud is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
International transfers
Our servers are in the European Union. Some providers process data in other countries: RevenueCat is based in the United States, and Cloudflare, Apple and Google may process data elsewhere. Where they do, they rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date at the top, and for significant changes we’ll tell you in the app. See also our Terms of Service.
